Dogs on Southwold Beach

The committee has decided to support the amended Waveney council plan for restricting dogs on Southwold beaches under the new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) legislation, which comes into force next year. Their original proposal was to ban dogs from the beaches all year round but, after consultation, this has now been relaxed to allow dogs to use the beach in the four Winter months from November to February. The committee feels this is an acceptable compromise.

The new control zone has been extended from north of the pier to Gun Hill but dogs will continue to be able to use the promenade, on a lead, all year round, as now. The issue is to be decided at a cabinet meeting of WDC on Sept 20.
